Oumour Themna

Oumour Themna (“What Matters to Us”) is Munathara’s regional flagship platform for youth‑driven public‑interest media, turning local community stories into informed national dialogue through community radio, podcasts, and live interaction. Each edition shares the same DNA- rigorous reporting, active listener participation, and editorial control in young hands- yet adapts to the landscape it serves.

The program initially launched in Tunisia, where teenagers and young adults from all 24 governorates host associative radio shows on the social, political, economic, and cultural issues shaping their communities. Their on-air conversations, enriched by interviews with officials and live call‑ins, feed a national podcast that compares perspectives across regions, ensuring local concerns reach a wider public.

A second Tunisian iteration, The Voice of Our Rights in the Regions, narrows the focus to justice and human rights. Law students aged 18–30 produce on‑the‑ground video podcasts that probe regional legal disputes, then expand the discussion in a live radio forum where distant listeners can challenge guests and suggest themes. At a moment when judicial independence is under strain in Tunisia, this format builds legal literacy and models transparent, accountable civic discourse.

In Morocco, Oumour Themna responds to a media landscape where youth- particularly women- are seldom heard beyond sports and entertainment. Five community stations and major streaming platforms now air weekly episodes produced by an 18‑to‑30‑year‑old cohort on migration, climate change, gender equality, and economic rights. A companion podcast, Aji Netnaqchou (“Let’s Discuss”), offers longer conversations with subject‑matter experts and stakeholders.

Across these iterations, Oumour Themna equips emerging journalists and thought leaders to interrogate power, provides citizens with reliable local information, and weaves voices from Tunisia and Morocco into a more inclusive and accountable public sphere.
