The Munathara Initiative’s aim is to empower a next generation of thought leaders, and in particular youth, women, and marginalized communities (YWM) to have a greater impact in participating in and shaping a vibrant and healthy Arabic public sphere. The generation and dissemination of reliable information gathered through rigorous research methods, including combating misinformation and disinformation, fact-checking, and holding those in power to account for their words and deeds are cornerstones of our past, present, and future work. 

The Munathara Initiative is therefore training new cadres of YWM thought leaders and practitioners--journalists, hosts, and producers--to better serve their local communities through scrupulous training on par with international standards and best practices. The Initiative is also training current industry leaders who express interest in acquiring skills and knowledge regarding media in the public interest. Finally, the Initiative aims to contribute to the establishment of Public Interest Media as a goalpost for responsible and reliable journalism across the Middle East and North Africa by working with and alongside private and public media partners who share a commitment to this important mission.
